Live Line Technology

ZETDC has over the last two years piloted the above technology to protect transformer installations from lightning and surges. The technology was deployed at our hotspots where transformer losses were frequent. From installation to date, the Combi Unit has improved line performance, reduced outages and also resulted in zero transformer losses where it is deployed. We have found it very safe for our employees as it is easy to maintain. We note that older systems can be refurbished and new installations can benefit immensely from this technology. The Technology was supplied to us by Merchant Links (Pvt) Ltd, the agents for Live Line Technology in Zimbabwe.

We at George Municipality use the drop out surge arrestors for approximately the last 10 years plus. Since the installing of the product the amount of transformer failure is at least 90% less due to lightning storms. The arrestors do not fail as quickly as the older ones so the arrestor stays in place working. When it fail (work) it drop out and can be replace from the ground with a link stick and without switching off any clients thus minimise down time drastically. We use the Combi unit for the last 5-6 years with all our outdoor pole mounted 150 kva. and bigger transformers. Since installing the Combi units we had not one failure of an arrestor but more important no transformers. We expect Consultants to use it when doing work for us.
